#YourSay Should mercury thermometers be banned worldwide?🌡🚫 China will ban the production of mercury thermometers and sphygmomanometers nationwide starting in 2026, according to a statement released by the National Medical Products Administration. Mercury is a metal that is liquid at ordinary temperatures. It is widely used in many products and processes, including thermometers and sphygmomanometers. However, mercury and its compounds can cause environmental pollution, as well as damage to a person's neural, immune and reproductive systems. To reduce mercury pollution, China has been cutting the metal's use in various products and processes. China was among the first to sign the Minamata Convention on Mercury – a global treaty adopted in 2013 to protect human health and the environment from the adverse effect of mercury – named after Minamata, Japan, where the release of mercury into industrial wastewater poisoned thousands of people. Do you think mercury thermometers should be completely banned worldwide❓Do you think electronic clinical thermometers can replace mercury ones❓Are there any other ways to reduce mercury pollution❓Share your views with us in the comment section below.👇
